An 88-year-old man was severely beaten with a rifle Tuesday night by a woman police describe as an acquaintance of the victim.
Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Maitland Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a stabbing, but later discovered the report was false. When police arrived they found the victim with significant injuries to his head and face, said Sgt. Michael Pauley of the Dayton Police Department.
The man was taken to the hospital with what Sgt. Pauley described as severe, but not life-threatening injuries. Those injuries included multiple lacerations to the nose and face, Pauley said. The 88-year-old also appeared to have injuries to one of his eyes. He also had swelling to his forehead.
The woman who allegedly assaulted the victim was arrested and is being held on suspicion of felonious assault. Neighbors and the victim called 911 for help following the reported attack.
